Cambodia: 8 Unexpected Suprises!

For Farts, Scams, Cheese and a Very Bald Head, Scroll Down A Bit!

I Did a Thing!

Getting Around in Cambodia
Mary-Ann standing on a wooden raft looking tired.
Rafts, made from broken planks and leaking barrels, do not count as boats. But, you may also find yourself needing to ride one occasionally!
About Those Extra Days…
By the way, I should of said earlier – you might also find yourself on the back of a moped being ferried across dirt and rubble roads, through herds of cattle and clouds of dust…

OK, Information Dump Complete

The Top 8

1. The Welcome Scam

A screenshot of google maps, showing how undeveloped and secluded the Thailand to Cambodia border crossing we used, was.
This is the border crossing we used… As you can see, it’s not exactly what you’d call well-established!

2. Hornbillions

A Hornbill in a tree on Koh Rong Samloem.
I was only a few metres away from this!

3. A Cave With a Surprise

Me squeezing through a tiny crack in a cave.
It was quite a squeeze, Mary-Ann took great pleasure in watching my bald dome turn tomato red with struggle.

4. ‘Phenomenal Penitentiary’

A large, depressing empty room, with a metal bed frame in the middle.
An example of the metal bed frames people were shackled to… Left to starve to death.

5. Temple Fatigue

Mary-Ann walking through an overgrown section of a path in Siem Reap.
We probably didn’t help ourselves by squeezing in some mini-hikes to our itinerary as well…

6. An Impromptu Bike Ride

Mary-Ann walking along a huge sandy beach on the Mekong in Kratie.
We did a bit of strolling too… The beaches were better than many coastal ones!

7. Fish Cheese

You are welcome…

8. Chi Phat… Or Should I Say Chi Fart

The view from the front of our boat as it floated along the river into the Chi Phat nature reserve.
A misty morning boat ride into the national park – the calm before the flatulence storm.

Those Were Just a Few!

A mud and rubble road, bisecting the forest on Koh Rong Samloem.
The whole island is a spiderweb of dusty, rocky tracks… Sadly, people were still clearing more forest even while we were there!

Stay bald folks.

Toodles,

Jack
